Scientist: "Black live matter protest have not lead to a spike in COVID cases" BLM: "Oh yeah ... i toldja I toldja... " Scientists: "It has lead to a motherfucking leap tot the moon in COVID cases, stupid fucks, get inside"

John Cullen

The research I saw on this looked like something a highschooler would do. it focused on the fact that while BLM riots were happening people stayed inside. Like the BLM spread was off set by the people who feared the riots and stayed home

Yeah this is silly and not helping. While I know it's not that simple with science and correlations do not equal a causality, denying that the protests (if we are fair of both sides) were the main reason for the spikes seems like wishful thinking. The daily infections pre protests were high but somewhat leveled with a slow downward trend, and that despite smaller protests during that time (which certainly helped keeping the numbers from declining faster). Then after the mass protests started the infections rised to unprecedent levels. It may not be as simple as I paint it, but it certainly isn't true that the protests had no or only little impact either

For all the science-denying embarrassments of humankind in these comments, maybe instead of flouting your ignorance, you can actually go read the research yourselves. The paper is called "Black Lives Matter Protests, Social Distancing, and COVID-19", authored by Dhaval M. Dave, Andrew I. Friedson, Kyutaro Matsuzawa, Joseph J. Sabia, Samuel Safford. Facts don't care about your feelings.

Anita Andriash

Could it be because a lot of them wear masks and they are also outdoors? My understanding is that most of the spread of COVID-19 is caused by mask-less people congregating indoors. Just thinking out loud, but welcome any discourse on this.

Jennifer Mosby

Well some wore masks, not because of corona though. but seriously - it did spike.
